Koopa 2, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Posted by MCSMstudios Nov. 19, 2009 @ 7:03 AM EST

I got New Super Mario Bros. Wii on Sunday, and it's awesome, way better than the DS game. Seriously, you should buy it. If you don't have a Wii, but one and this game.

Anyway, playing the game has gotten me interested in doing Koopa 2 again. For the past few weeks I haven't been working on anything Flash-wise. It happens. But I really needed to fix a few things. There are so many parts of repeated code, where I really should have used functions and such, including the player, which was a huge mistake. Anyway, all that made the game very hard to edit, so I had to go in and fix it all. It's not all fixed, but the player is, and it has hundreds of lines of code on it.

Another problem looms though. The file is getting really big and complex, meanwhile my computer is getting old and outdated. I fear I may reach the point where it becomes very hard to work on the game with my current hardware (it takes forever to save the file). So long story short I need a new computer. Until I reach that point I'll keep working on the game.

I'm also working on two other games. One, which I call Goobie, is a somewhat physics based collection-oriented platformer; I'll probably release a demo of it soon. And the other, a more secretive project, is something done in a NES game style. Maybe I'll get a sponsorship and some ads in these games to buy a new computer. I'll probably be releasing both these projects before Koopa 2 is finished, because they're both much smaller. Koopa 2 will have somewhere around 60 levels, 8+ bosses, tons of power-ups, and dozens of different types of enemies. The other games aren't so complex.

Happy Chinchilla Day.

Here are some screenshots from my upcoming game, A Koopa's Revenge II. Mostly from world 2, the desert. Some of the art is unfinished.

Clock Day Game

Posted by MCSMstudios Aug. 16, 2009 @ 7:05 PM EDT

I made a game for Clock Day, but it didn't get too many views, (surprise) so I'm posting a link here so more people will check it out.

Clock Day? Vote 5!

(And recommend it for Clock Day 2009 if you'd like to)

Koopa 2 Progress and More

Posted by MCSMstudios Jul. 29, 2009 @ 10:50 PM EDT

I haven't said much about Koopa 2 lately. Primarily because I've been at work on my Po3 game, which will be awesome by the way. Really awesome.

Anyway, I've made a few levels and enemies for Koopa 2. For the second world, the one with the desert. It's sort of a Mario tradition. I also made a ghost house, and I can say things are feeling kickass so far. I've stopped trying to make the levels really easy, which makes designing and testing them a lot more fun. They aren't as hard as even the begining of Koopa 1, but don't worry they will get very hard near the end, particularly the secret levels.

Po3 is going pretty good, but a little slower than I'd hoped. It's cetainly not going to be anything on the scale of Koopa in terms of game length. But it should still wallop your intestines with it's greatness.

I'm currently working on about a dozen different projects, which may sound bad, but really, it means there's always something interesting to work on. Individual Flashes won't come as fast as they would otherwise, but there's going to be a greater volume of work coming out overall.

Mainly I'll be working on Po3 though, because it has a deadline. So don't expect too much progress on Koopa 2 until the fall. I'm also working on my very first music video, and it's a fair bit more work than I'd hoped.

I'll leave you with a screenshot from Koopa 2 for all to speculate on.

New Cartoon w/ Tankmen Parody

Posted by MCSMstudios Jul. 7, 2009 @ 7:24 AM EDT

My friend and I made a follow-up to our surprisingly successful How to be a Newground Animator God Which is totally awesome, by the way. It includes this Tankmen parody. I know it's not the cleverest one, but I had fun animating it, damnit, and that's what counts, eh chaps?

.

.

Here's the whole movie. It's funniest when viewed in it's entirety. Hope you like it.

Koopa News

Posted by MCSMstudios Jun. 2, 2009 @ 6:55 AM EDT

I just finished World 1, which means the game is roughly 50-60% done. The difficult half is over anyhow, most of the programming is done it's all about design now. With any luck progress should be faster.

I'm still looking for music for the game so if you want to check out the songs or make a suggestion you're welcome to it. Songs Post. I added a five stars system to replace the question marks. Makes the page more interesting.

UPDATE: I have a team now. Sorry to all those artists who really need a programer.

I'm looking for some teammates to do a Po3 game with. I'm going to be the boss of our team, not that I'm overly bossy, but it helps get things done. I'm no good in an equal partnership, just ask Almighty Hans. Revenue will ofcourse be shared equally. I've got my own idea and it goes something like this.

A 2D sidescrolling beat-em-up with a Megamanesque twist. There will be 3 stages (playable in any order) with 3 bosses, and after you defeat each boss you take their ability, by transforming into them or something like that, it's not too important how you get their ability. Each boss's ability can be used to easily defeat another boss and certain enemies. When you have all the powers a final level becomes available. You'll need all your gathered powers to get through the final level and to defeat the final boss.

Who I'm looking for:
ANIMATOR: Someone who's pretty good with animation and background art. Aplicants should at least be considerably better than me when it comes to art and animation. Animation is very important. A lot of people can draw, but the team needs someone who can animate well. Lots of character animations.

MUSICIAN: Preferably an action oriented music style. There's a time and a place for calm music but a beat-em-up probably isn't it.

The theme of the game hasn't been decided. I want to base it on the strengths of the animator and musician. The game can play the same whether it's in space or in hell, but those themes require different art and music styles. I'd prefer not to do a medieval Lord of the Rings type theme though.

I work in Flash 8 with AS2, so the animator will probably need to use Flash 8 or lower. Not really a problem for the musician.

Post a comment or PM me if you're interested. I live in the Pacific timezone, but I stay up late, and I work 3 days per week. My teammates will get my MSN address for communication.

P.S. If I can get a team together there will probably be another Koopa 2 hiatus. Sorry guys.
