Po3, Coder seeking team members, AS2, Flash 8, has own Portal Awards
Posted by MCSMstudios May. 22, 2009 @ 5:42 AM EDTUPDATE: I have a team now. Sorry to all those artists who really need a programer.
I'm looking for some teammates to do a Po3 game with. I'm going to be the boss of our team, not that I'm overly bossy, but it helps get things done. I'm no good in an equal partnership, just ask Almighty Hans. Revenue will ofcourse be shared equally. I've got my own idea and it goes something like this.
A 2D sidescrolling beat-em-up with a Megamanesque twist. There will be 3 stages (playable in any order) with 3 bosses, and after you defeat each boss you take their ability, by transforming into them or something like that, it's not too important how you get their ability. Each boss's ability can be used to easily defeat another boss and certain enemies. When you have all the powers a final level becomes available. You'll need all your gathered powers to get through the final level and to defeat the final boss.
Who I'm looking for:
ANIMATOR: Someone who's pretty good with animation and background art. Aplicants should at least be considerably better than me when it comes to art and animation. Animation is very important. A lot of people can draw, but the team needs someone who can animate well. Lots of character animations.
MUSICIAN: Preferably an action oriented music style. There's a time and a place for calm music but a beat-em-up probably isn't it.
The theme of the game hasn't been decided. I want to base it on the strengths of the animator and musician. The game can play the same whether it's in space or in hell, but those themes require different art and music styles. I'd prefer not to do a medieval Lord of the Rings type theme though.
I work in Flash 8 with AS2, so the animator will probably need to use Flash 8 or lower. Not really a problem for the musician.
Post a comment or PM me if you're interested. I live in the Pacific timezone, but I stay up late, and I work 3 days per week. My teammates will get my MSN address for communication.
P.S. If I can get a team together there will probably be another Koopa 2 hiatus. Sorry guys.

And while we're at it, happy Saint Patrick's Day!

That and life is also getting in the way. I've got a few days off work so I'll try to catch up. If you want to try my LBP levels my PSN ID is Burgerstein

SPOILER WARNING!!!
In AKR2, whenever you die or complete a level the game goes from day to night, or night to day. This affects some blocks and certain enemy behaviours, among other things. Most level themes include 2 songs, one for the day and another for the night. And some levels, particularly castles, have one song all their own.
So here are the songs I plan to use in the game. I also have a number of songs Iwant to use but don't know where to put them yet, I made add them later.

I'm willing to take suggestions for music. Keep in mind I'm looking for original music over remixes. If you're going to go the remix route, I'd prefer older songs for two reasons: A, remixes of newer video game songs often sound worse than the original, and B, when people hear an older song they think, "Oh cool, I remember that from (game)," but when the hear newer songs they think, "You stole this from (game)." With remixes, the more obscure the better.
Added star ratings. As follows:
***** Absolutely Perfect
**** Can't get much better than this
*** This song could make it into the final game
** Just a placeholder really, I want to replace it
* Oh, sweet jebus? What was I thinking?

Hooray! It's my birthday! And as a present to myself I made this movie. It took over an hour to make.
Now everyone wish me a happy birthday and tell me how great my creation is.

Okay, I really need to take a break from this thing. I haven't made much progress in the past month, and I can never seem to work on it for more than half an hour at a time. With a project this size I need 8 hour days to get anything done, and I just don't have the drive.
I'll be taking some time off, and probably make a cartoon or two. Something that involves less thinking. I haven't made a new cartoon in like a year. Gotta clear my head a bit.
I should start up again sometime after Christmas. I'll still accept suggestions but my responses probably won't be as prompt. Maybe if I get inspired I'll start up again sooner, but don't expect anything. It was well over a year between the start and finish of AKR1, not because it was a year's work, but because it got monotonous.
Sorry, guys. I hope you'll enjoy my cartoons though.

My goal was to keep with the role reversal theme from the first game, meaning all the enemies in AKR must be good guys in Mario games. Unfortunately most good guys in MArio games are converted bad guys, so I had to make some stuff up, mostly mushroom related.
There will be more enemies than pictured here, I just haven't drawn them yet. I'm also open to suggestions for possible enemies.
The game doesn't have a set release date as of right now.

I've made some progress in Koopa 2. Fixed a bunch of coding stuff and made 2 new levels. I'm able to make levels alot faster than I thought. About 1 per day, plus a bit more time when I need to make a new enemy or object. The levels seem a little shorter than AKR1, but a bunch of people complained they were too long anyway.
I'm calling on my fans for a couple of things. First, I need some better music to replace the song in the demo. I liked it at first, but that song gets irritating fast. The song also needs to fit, so it can't be power metal or something like that, it needs to be music you wouldn't be surprised to hear in a Mario game.
Second, I need some enemy ideas for an undeground level. They should be normally good guys like the rest of the AKR enemies. Something to act like a Buzzy Beetle would be great.
I'm also looking for day and night songs for each level theme. Some levels will be day and some night. This is so you won't hear the same desert song over and over in the desert world for example. I have a lot of songs already, but I'd like to replace them with something better. Here are the level themes:
Plains, a standard 2D Mario level (like in the demo)
Forest, kinda dark and mysterious
Sky, like up in the clouds, fast paced music
Shrooms, on top of giant mushrooms (like SMB or NSMB)
Caves, there are always caves
Ice, bright and white
Under Water, obligatory level theme
Desert, dry and hot
Volcano, lots of lava and fire
Ghost Houses, I want them to be really spooky
Castles, each of the 7 or 8 castles will have it's own musical theme
Map, I still need some good map music.
Bonus Stage, fast and peppy, full of fun
It seems like I'm asking a lot, but it's all voluntary, and you're on newgrounds so it's unlikely you have something important to do. Remember to use the Audio Portal.
