Koopa News

Posted by MCSMstudios Jun. 2, 2009 @ 6:55 AM EDT

I just finished World 1, which means the game is roughly 50-60% done. The difficult half is over anyhow, most of the programming is done it's all about design now. With any luck progress should be faster.

I'm still looking for music for the game so if you want to check out the songs or make a suggestion you're welcome to it. Songs Post. I added a five stars system to replace the question marks. Makes the page more interesting.

That's really great news. I can't wait to see the finished result.

Wow. Koopa's revenge 2 was in the works for a while.
Glad to see it's almost done.

Jun. 9, 2009 | 10:06 PM MCSMstudios responds:

Almost is a strong word. But it's definitetly closer to the finish than the start.

Hey, I'm back. I had some issues in life and now I return. Sorry I was gone so long, I don't even know if you noticed. I think you should make a stage where it is all in space. With the music for something similar to starwars :D.

Jun. 9, 2009 | 10:04 PM MCSMstudios responds:

I noticed. Many of you left for a while it seems.

Jun. 10, 2009 | 6:50 AM inspectertaz says:

Jun. 22, 2009 | 10:05 PM MCSMstudios responds:

It was pretty hot here too. Way back when you posted this. Things have calmed down a bit though.

Sorry for not commenting or emailing for a few days, i've been busy. Here are more ideas.

Boss ideas.
1) The boss for the inside a whale castle could be an anchor. The anchor is invincable but the thing you have to harm is the epiglotis (the thing at the back of your throat). The boss attacks but slamming at koopa and fireing fireballs and acid drips from the ceiling. To hurt the boss you must jump on the epiglotis 10 times or hit it with 16 fireballs or 14 hammers/bones. Once enough damage is done the anchor will zoom at koopa but the epiglotis snaps and falls and crushes the anchor, obviously killing it.
2) The 5th castle could be themed as a dojo. The boss could be a shuriken (ninja star). It attacks by throwing ninja stars, grappling to the ceiling and dropping bouncy bombs, blocking any of koopa's projectiles and deflecting them back at him and sticking to the wall and throwing out ninja toads.

Sorry for not responding for a few weeks, I've also been busy.
1) 1. Not bad, but it might be too menacing. 2. This one's pretty good too. But it's a little short on pep. 3. Long, chiptune, and famous. 4. Interesting, but I'm not sure that it's right for the game.
2) 1. Not feeling this one. It's not all that unMario, but it doesn't feel plainsy. 2. Sounds like Star Trek, too ambient. 3. I'm seriously considering this one. Reminds me of Mario Kart. It tends to be a little too epic at times. And it doesn't loop. Though it's complicated enough to carry through the whole game.
3) 1. Ambient, just too ambient. Ambient is the antihtesis of pep. 2. Same problems as the last one. Not bad, but really not right. 3. Better than the others but kind of repetitive. Very repetitive.
4) 1. lol, no. It's just too techno. 2. Very much ambient. I can see this in a video game, but not Mario. 3. Ice Cap Zone is just too memorable of a song to use. Coupled with Marble Zone it's just too Sonic. 4. Very ambient. Not the mood I want to imply at all.
5) 1. I could definitely see this in a game, but not this game. 2. Hmmmm, pretty good. Better than the current volcano night song at least. 3. A little too intense, technoey.
Bosses
1) Anchors are pretty static, something with moving parts is usually better. And the bosses don't really have to fit the theme. It might even be better if they didn't.
2) Seems like the boss itself is a ninja. It it's a shuriken it should throw itself at you. Also, it doesn't seem to have a weakness.

Yeah. I think you should put the Forum up so we can all keep in touch :)

Jun. 22, 2009 | 10:05 PM MCSMstudios responds:

Not a bad idea, but I'm having trouble with managing my website right now.

Jun. 10, 2009 | 5:47 PM hero88go1 says:

Oh, And I found some cool music,
Maybe for a space stage, or it could fit a lot of other things http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/241670 Shift.
Any Stage, Preferably Classic http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/243976

Maybe for a Boss Stage? http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/243505

For a Secret Stage? http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/245579

Castle? http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/244700

Jun. 22, 2009 | 11:19 PM MCSMstudios responds:

lol, well, I can't use this.

That's pretty cool, but I don't think I can use it for anything, it's awfully long and not all that consistent.

That's pretty good, but I don't think it really works well in a Mario style game.

Much too techno for Koopa. And I'd like to avoid medley of any sort.

It's alright but I want the castle songs to inspire me as to what the level will be. this one didn't do that.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Great I like a lot A Koppa´s Revenge and since I finished the game I have been waiting for the second part.
I´m happy to know that it is almost finish, I liked more the other style but this is not bad, is also good. I will continue waiting.

Jun. 22, 2009 | 10:06 PM MCSMstudios responds:

I don't see what everyone likes about the first game's style. I just traced some sprites and pulled the rest out of my ass.

Jun. 22, 2009 | 9:24 AM Grandmasterchaotix says:

Hey,mcsmstudios I've got an idea maybe for a bonus stage in koopa 2 you can make a really hard version of the stage you were playing on (or a whole new stage) but what will you get for playing the bonus levels?

Jun. 22, 2009 | 10:07 PM MCSMstudios responds:

I've actually dropped the bonus stage in favour of recurring boss fights with escalating difficulty.

Jun. 23, 2009 | 6:27 AM inspectertaz says:

can you tell us what are the bosses and each world theres going to be?

Jun. 24, 2009 | 11:16 PM MCSMstudios responds:

No, that would be a spoiler ;)

Jun. 23, 2009 | 12:28 PM SJustin says:

Wow, I can't wait for the game to be finished.
So excited!

Jun. 25, 2009 | 11:26 AM hero88go1 says:

Well I have more Music suggestions *Woop* *Woop*

I don't really know about this one, just kind woke me up http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/227950 Maybe for a little sneaky cut scene :D

Next, it might be a bit short, but it reminded me of one of those flying stages in Super Mario World where you can either fly over everything or just do the hard level ^_^ http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/133098

Again, reminded me of a castle stage in SMW where there was a secret stage at the top http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/171702

Its pretty much exactly like the one in the first game, for the title screen. But a different remix, http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/9409

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/31021 then there is this, which could be used for like getting into a boss stage or a miniboss

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/86833 this just made me go Wootage.

And last, but certainly not leasy, overworld! http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/151839

Jul. 5, 2009 | 11:06 PM MCSMstudios responds:

1) Well, I'm not sure if this would fit anywhere in the game. And I've opted out of doing cutscenes. They're just busywork that prevents progress on the game and clutters up the FLA
2) Yep, that's exactly where it's from. Kinda neat but doesn't really have a place in the game.
3) Pretty sweet, but it doesn't have the loopability I need. I'm very picky about the music for this game so don't feel too discouraged.
4) It doesn't quite feel original enough. It's almost exactly like the real song with a few claps added in.
5) Not bad, but this song is just too famous. I want to avoid filling the game with Mario remixes.
6) Well, this one was used in Super Mario 63 (and I think some other suggestions were too) I want too differentiate my game from others.
7) It's a little too intense. I don't want to my game to be like so many other fan games that have really obnoxious music. More subtley and originality is required.

Thanks for suggesting music. Even when I don't use it, the effort is appreciated.

Jun. 30, 2009 | 4:48 PM Grandmasterchaotix says:

no special stages?! :( oh well antways in the first koopa 2 demo I found a secret exit will secret exits still be in place if so what purpose do they have?

Jul. 5, 2009 | 10:50 PM MCSMstudios responds:

There will be secret exits. They will be for the purpose of branching paths.
Please forgive the lateness of my reply.
