Little Wheel

"Great atmosphere."

submission: Little Wheel
date: June 20, 2009

The story, the style, and the music were all great, but the game sort of played itself. Not much to do other than click where it tells you to. If it weren't short I probably wouldn't have finished it. Not bad, but not really fun either.

Break Yourself 2.6

"Pretty good."

submission: Break Yourself 2.6
date: May 28, 2009

It was funny, and it made sense. A rare combination. But you should tone down the gradients. It looks like it was made in 2002 because of the harsh gradients and straight lines. But maybe that's just your style. Anyhow, good work.

Author's Response:

Yeah, I hear what you're saying, nowadays a lot of people almost cell shade their flash but I was trying a different style. I'm a bit of a black sheep

"Okay idea. It's got some rough edges."

submission: iPumpkin

There are alot of things that need to be fixed with this game. It seems like a novice effort. You need to polish it more.
1) The enemies aren't affected by the walls (except for the one that's killed by the walls)
2) You have to hit the reset button after you die. How hard would it have been to fix that?
3) After the guy dies you can still push him around with the line an finish the level.
4) The levels where you can't draw are just crappy one-screen platformers.
5) Bad collision detecting, specifically with the falling spikes and crawling snakes.

It just looks like you found a code to draw with the mouse and then said, "I'm making a game out of this!"
It's not horrible, mind you. It just needs some polishing. The music was good, and fit the mood.

Bytesize

"The handbag loop is amazing. It defines NG."

submission: Bytesize
date: July 4, 2008

It's what I heard everytime I went to NG way back when. But on to Bytesize. Bytesize is awesome and should never end. I emailed Tom a bytesize like a week ago but now I hear he might be ending it. That just sucks.

Ultimate Mario vs Sonic

"You've got balls."

date: January 31, 2008

Finally, a Mario vs. Sonic where there's an actual winner. Not the winner I would have chosen but that doesn't matter. It really takes some courage to invoke all the flaming. The genre itself is outdated, but good job.

Boss Bash

"Nice work, man."

submission: Boss Bash
date: August 23, 2007

It's nice to see something from that collab being released for once. I'm guessing this means it's totally over then. So I can submit my part too. Awesome. Shame that thing never took off.
Anyway, good job. Sounds, graphics all good. And you gave it a challenge, sweet.

Author's Response:

Yeah, I was holding out, hoping it would be revived, but after talking to Glaiel, I realized hope was pretty slim, so here we are.

Thanks for leaving a review.

Get the Stars 3

"Good, but Plain."

submission: Get the Stars 3
date: August 27, 2006

It's a good game, but it could do alot better with some more complicated graphics and a theme of sorts. Like, make it so that the way the game works is related to the real world. Maybe you're in a spaceship and you have to collec spacegold while avoiding comets (bad example but you get the idea). I didn't find any bugs, good job.

Animator vs. Animation

"Not as original as everyone says, and overrated"

date: July 29, 2006

The BAD: Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad or anything, it just isn't top 50 good. This idea has certainly been done before, both in flash and in traditional forms of animation. Like when the Looney Toons would fight with a paintbrush, it's the same basic idea. It's still a very good flash.
The GOOD: I like how the non vector images in the flash didn't look pixelly, in every other animation like this I've seeen the background is very pixelated. I didn't lose any enjoyment because of the lack of music, I just listened to my own, and like you said, there's no music everyone likes.
I'm really writing this review because I'm tired of people praising this for being original, it is in fact a very old idea. Again, it's not bad, it's just not original. And I don't really have a problem with it being unoriginal, my problem is with the people who keep saying it's so damned original.
Good luck in the future.

3 Step Tutorial

"A few problems in an otherwise acceptable tutorial"

submission: 3 Step Tutorial
date: March 21, 2006

Please accept this as constructive criticism.
Starting with the preloader. I'm not sure how I can accept your advice on making a preloader when yours didn't work properly. The bar moved out and filled the space repeatedly while the movie loaded, most preloaders fill up as a function of the amount of the flash that has loaded (not to mention I was gazing at a white screen for like 8 seconds while the preloader loaded). Also it started in the middle, not really a huge deal but I prefer the traditional left to right action. On the plus side you had the courtesy to use a border. (It really grinds my gears when the bar has no end and you can't tell how close it is to finishing.
Now onto the Frame-by-Frame. It's good that you provided an example movie, but it should have shown more action in the figures, like guys running or jumping. And your method is a bit risky. A better method (in my opinion) is to create the beginning and end looks for a character and fill in the middle (I'm not going into too much detail here) instead of doing it chronologically which can cause scaling problems along with varied speeds of movement.
As for the AS, it was very simple and unnecessary. Most, if not all, of the info you provided can be found with the material that comes with Flash (with a lot more detail, no less). At least you didn't steal a game engine and give it to newbs who don't know how to use it.
The menu seemed a bit slow at times and somewhat difficult to navigate at points (most of the time it was fine, but some points were annoying).
A nice effort but it seems a few more minutes of brushing it up would greatly improve it. Good luck with your next Flash.

rufus Tetris Trouble

"Two things that would totally help this movie are:"

date: July 14, 2005

1: Change the animation when he turns.
2: Double the fps.

Other than that pretty good effort.
